چکیده

A slightly halophilic, Gram-stain-negative, straight-rod-shaped aerobe, strain JO1(T), was isolated from jeotgal, a traditional Korean fermented seafood. Cells were observed singly or in pairs and had 2-5 peritrichous flagella. Optimal growth occurred at 25 degrees C, in 6.5 % (w/v) salts and at pH 5.0-6.0. Strain JO1(T) was oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. Cells did not reduce fumarate, nitrate or nitrite on respiration. Acid was produced from several carbohydrates and the strain utilized many sugars and amino acids as carbon and nitrogen sources. The main fatty acids were C(12 : 0) 3-OH, C(16 : 0), C(17 : 0) cyclo and summed feature 3 (C(16 : 1)omega7c/iso-C(15 : 0) 2-OH). DNA-DNA hybridization experiments with strain JO1(T) and Cobetia marina DSM 4741(T) revealed 24 % relatedness, although high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (98.9 %) was observed between these strains. Based on phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic analyses, it is proposed that the isolate from jeotgal should be classified as a representative of a novel species, Cobetia crustatorum sp. nov., with strain JO1(T) (=KCTC 22486(T)=JCM 15644(T)) as the type strain.

A novel, Gram-positive, non-motile, endospore-forming and moderately halophilic bacterium, strain Grbi(T), was isolated from a traditional Korean fermented seafood. The organism grew optimally in the presence of 10-15 % NaCl, at 37 degrees C and pH 8.0. The peptidoglycan of the cell wall consisted of meso-diaminopimelic acid, and the predominant menaquinone was MK-7. The major fatty acids of st...

A novel, extremely halophilic archaeon, D43(T), was isolated from traditional salt-fermented seafood in Korea. The cells were Gram-negative-staining and motile. The strain grew at 15-50 degrees C, 10-30 % (w/v) NaCl and pH 6.0-8.0. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain D43(T) is affiliated with the family Halobacteriaceae in the domain Archaea and had 95.5...

A Gram-positive, non-motile, slightly halophilic actinomycete, strain JG-241T, was isolated from jeotgal, a traditional Korean fermented seafood, and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. Strain JG-241T grew optimally at 25-30 degrees C and in the presence of 2-5% (w/v) NaCl. The physiological and biochemical properties of strain JG-241T were distinguishable fr...

A novel, Gram-positive, rod-shaped, motile, endospore-forming, halophilic bacterial strain, J18(T), was isolated from a traditional salt-fermented seafood made of gizzard shad in Korea. Colonies were convex, cream-coloured and 1.0-2.0 mm in diameter after incubation for 3 days on marine agar. Growth occurred at pH 7.0-11.0 (optimum, pH 10.0), at 4-40 °C (optimum, 37 °C) and in the presence of 0...

Strain 104(T) was isolated from a traditional salt-fermented seafood in Korea. It was a Gram-positive, non-motile, coccus-shaped bacterium. It formed lemon-yellow, opaque colonies that were circular with entire margins. Optimal growth occurred at 30-37 °C, pH 7-8 and in the presence of 0-2 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences from strain 104(T) and reference species of...
